Research visit to CoLAM at Monash University

July 4-20, 2026

In July 2026, RESHAPE team member Anceli Kaveri spent two weeks visiting the Centre for Learning Analytics at Monash (CoLAM) at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

CoLAM brings together researchers from education, technology, and a range of other disciplines, creating a multidisciplinary environment focused on improving learning and educational practice through research and innovation. During the visit, Anceli was hosted by Senior Lecturer Yi-Shan Tsai. The research visit was part of the RESHAPE project and provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss ongoing research, and explore future collaborations around AI and education.

One of the key observations from the visit was that many of the questions currently examined in RESHAPE are also being actively explored in other parts of the world. In particular, learner agency and the data literacy skills needed to engage with AI appeared highly relevant across a wide range of projects and contexts. These themes emerged repeatedly in discussions with researchers throughout the visit, highlighting their growing importance in the field.

The visit also strengthened connections between RESHAPE and researchers at CoLAM, including colleagues with whom Anceli had previously collaborated online. These face-to-face exchanges helped deepen existing research relationships and created new opportunities for future collaboration around AI, learning analytics, agency, and digital literacy.

Throughout the two weeks, Anceli was introduced to a variety of ongoing research and development projects within the group. These projects demonstrated CoLAM’s expertise in technological innovation and methodology, as well as its strong commitment to supporting learners and educators. Across different initiatives, there was a clear emphasis on ensuring that digital tools are designed thoughtfully and used in ways that genuinely benefit educational practice.

During the visit, Anceli also presented the RESHAPE project and her own research on agency and digital literacy skills in one of CoLAM’s hybrid research seminars. The presentation sparked engaging discussions and provided valuable perspectives for RESHAPE to consider in its future work. The visit also supported the development of several paper plans and opened new directions for continued research collaboration.

RESHAPE warmly thanks Yi-Shan, Vanessa, Bhagya, and the CoLAM team for the insightful exchanges and support during the visit. The conversations, connections, and collaborations developed during these two weeks are expected to continue growing in the future.
